Am I running 32-bit or 64-bit Windows?

If you’re not sure about which version you’re on, you can find out by viewing your computer properties. How to do that varies with which version of Windows you’re running.

The most consistent way – which should work on all Windows versions – is to start Windows Explorer (explorer.exe), right-click on the word “Computer” in the navigation tree on the left of Explorer, and left-click on the “Properties” in the context menu which appears. You’ll see a screen which looks a lot like the screenshot in figure 1 below. The “System Type” will tell you what sort of OS you’re running.
