Barn Meetings

How about having a ZOOM or other online meet just to chew the fat!
Last Sunday in January?

Good idea Tony.
I’ve just learned how to schedule a zoom meeting,  as you may know, unless you have bought a licence, the time limit is 40 minutes.
You can work around this by scheduling two meetings with a break between.
Does any reader have a licence for Zoom and be willing to facilitate this?

Throwing a spanner in the works (don't I always?) - there's more than Zoom!

Google Meet is also an option - I use it on my Sunday night online Poker games with guys I used to play with in their houses. No time limit on those meetings (at least not that we've hit), no install required - will work from a browser with a single click. You do need a google account set up to use one, but there's no cost involved.

Probably two questions then...

- is there a demand for an open video chat?
- is there a technology that most people are already using to stay in touch with friends and family?

Please add your thoughts below...

I've got a friend who's Amateur Radio club has started doing their meetings on Zoom. One of the members has paid for subscription so they can setup sub-groups as well as meet for longer than 45 mins.

Wouldn't be anything like the Barn meetings as it'll be harder to show off one's system or to help out others problems.

Up for giving something a try though :)

Yup!  I'm up for giving it a try, too.....
However....
I do think that a DEGREE of pre-planning, structure and "moderation" will be needed!
Perhaps we - all - "need" to confirm our unanimous agreement to the Server options... to the potential (if any!) for Discord... to maintain, servicing & managing our shared on-line resources (especially as (is likely!) there are additional divergences between the still currently in use sims (and peripherals) etc.  Including VR.
How about scheduling for 10:00 am on the first Sunday in February?
Both Andy & Peter need to "manage" such an event (at least in part) and to stop any of "us" 🙄🙄🙄 going off on a tangent!!
Perhaps invite a bit of "pre-notification";if there are any 'big' issues to discuss/share?
Barry.
Happy 2021 !!

I think a Zoom meet is a great idea. Thanks Tony. Google Meet also looks pretty straightforward. Hope all are well. Hugh.

Having had Zoom connects lately with my Dads side of the family in east London and Essex I know it can descend into a ca phony and babble
We should be disciplined enough in ATC speak to improve on that or if not a "chair" giving some direction! (Heaven forbid)

Also not all of us have MS team (now downloaded myself) or Zoom. Will check out Andy's Google meet also.
So far the post has been read a lot but only 5 comments.
We could limit the first attempt to say 5 takers to see if worthwhile?

I would like to give it a go. I don't know if it will be a raging success or dismal failure but you won't know the problems unless you try.... ooh that sounds inspirational.
I guess there won't be a general topic but I don't think we need to worry. We can congratulate ourselves if we can see and hear everyone and then move on from there.
....perhaps there should be one rule that everyone must have a glass of something in their hand.
