Have you tried a Rift Brian? I'd argue both have their advantages and disadvantages. Rift is so immersive you are almost really there but, especially at the moment, wearing the Rift for a long time can give you a very warm head. It's also harder to see other Windows; PlanG/LNM, joinsFS/vPilot etc. Some of these can be solved, FlyInside does separate add-ons for FSX/P3D and XPlane (you have to buy them all individually if you're a multi-simmer) Lockheed are continually improving Rift (VR) support.
If you can get to a Barn meeting I'll happily bring mine again so you can try one out if you need to.

I still have 3x 32" monitors as well as the rift, I use them depending on what Im doing. If I'm using XP, then I will use the rift if its a short "jaunt". Anything that needs planning, then at present I use the monitors with trackir so that I can use my Saitek radio/multipanel/switch and also the 22" monitor that has Plan G running.
Im sure I will eventually migrate all my flying via Rift, but for me, its about getting confident using the Garmin etc, I think once I have that and the "leap motion" sorted, then I will likely fly in rift most of the time.

Rift has a very good set of headphones and a microphone built in.

Hi Chaps
Many thanks for your feedback, I went for the monitors in the end (sorry). I think VR is the way to go for most people keeping up with the very latest hardware. but for me, not so sure !! time will tell. I am very happy with the monitors no dead pixels. Very easy to set up across 3 screens in x-plane with no distorsion. still playing with P3d and FSX. However can't seem to get little navmap and x-plane to talk to each other ?
