For those of you who take pre flight planning seriously, weither your VFR or IFR this is the place for you
Weather
METAR and TAF Reports
http://en.allmetsat.com/metar-taf/
http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/metar.shtml
Significant Weather Charts
http://aviationweather.gov/products/swh/
High Level Winds and Temperatures.
Here select the area of the globe you would like the report for, from the table, by clicking on the letter of the alphabet that corresponds with your choice. You will then be presented with another table where you have to decide at what flight level you require the report and for what time segment.
For example if I am flying Trans-Atlantic I would select and click on the letter H from the Winds and Temerature table, then from the next table I might select flight level 390 and the current forcast for the next 12 hours. So by clicking on the small blue button in the column under FL390 and inline with the Current + 12 hours line I will be given the chart to print off showing the winds and temps for the criteria I selected.

Route Planning or Building
Route Finder
. A free and very popular route finder. Just select your departure and arrival airports and it will do the rest. You can even input its route into FsBuild and others to be able to export the plan directly into Flight Simulator
http://rfinder.asalink.net/free/
Fs Navaigator.
This is payware and highly rated by many in the community and affords you the luxury of moving map displays. Unfortunately its author has decided not to develop it further for use in FSX.
http://www.fsnavigator.com/
Flightsim Commander.
Again payware but well supported and runs with both Fs9 and FSX
http://www.aerosoft.com/cgi-local/re/iboshop.cgi?showd,,10295
FsBuild.
Again payware and unlike FsNaviagator the author is working on developing the programme to run with FSX. This programme is considered by many to be the most complex but also the most indepth. Here you can export flight plans direct into Flight Simulator,PMDG,PSS and more.

Fuel Planners.
Having planned your journey its not going to look good on your CV if you run out of fuel before getting to your destination.Likewise you will be in for a grilling if your found to be flying with excessive fuel loads which are costing money to haul around the skies.Hopefull some of these programmes will help you get your fuel loads to a respectable level.
